cleaned the garage out and could finaly get near to drain my big twin pump comp out after a year . was expecting a few pints as it gets used a lot. drained it and got half a pint out il do my smaller one next. last time got about half a pint of gloopy yellow oily water out of it it never seems to get in to the water seperator or the pipes just the tank it certainly wont rust , i even pushed the boat out and cleaned the water seperator feeding my air fed helmet and it got a new filter

We do our three phase huge compressor every five odd years, never get much out, even after rodding the drain plug.

Doesn't get used alot, mind you.

Mine is the same, only got a 50l comp but it rarely gets drained, usually left empty though, my separator never really sees much moisture either, on the few occasions i have drained it becuase its being put in the car or laid down for some reason i get maybe 1/4 pint out of it

I normally fill a two gallon bucket every year from 270l and 200l linked compressor's but there are always on 24-7

Guy I knew was clearing his workshop out and the compressors - 150 litre tanks - were immovable. They were full, he didn't know you were supposed to drain them so never had!

was working at a dentists and there little comp was nearly running permanantly and screeching i tightened the belt up and drained it. 2 gallons of water out of it i asked em about emptying it and they never have i said do it weekly

We had water in the airline issues at a previous employer, all around the workshop.

We couldn't figure out why, as the main take off was from the middle of the compressor tank, and we'd never had any problems previously.
Turned out the autodrain had failed, and the tank was half full of water. Took several 20litre drums to get it emptied, and lots of blowing water out the airlines.

From my memory, "The Post Apocalyptic Inventor" worked on a dental compressor and there wasn't even a drain. The tank was full of water.

I bought a 150L comp as a non runner and struggled to get it in and out the van turned out it was half full of water and took over an hour to drain out. Needed a new motor in the end.
Odd thing was it was literally new so I don't know how it goes so m6 water in there, it was like someone was using it as a pressure washer!

I can just imagine being in the dentists chair and getting a gobful of oily water from the drill or airjet

Dental compressors are generally oil-less, unless the dentist is a cheapskate.

We've had a good few weeks of quite low humidity conditions. The dehumidifier in the workshop has rarely run in that time, and there's not been much water in the compressor tank lately. It may all change towards the end of the week, with warm, humid air coming in off the continent.

I was surprised to see oil-less ocmpressors are not required under NHS guidelines:

Does say that oil needs ot be removed, receivers drained, filters used, maintenance records kept etc.

this was 40 years ago think it was only used for grinding and polishing the false gnashers
