DPF's raise their ugly head again.

Just read in the paper about some guy whose parked his new Range rover outside some swanky garage in London & plastered it with complaints about the manafacturers lack of after care.
Some may well remember my tale horiblis about the daughters nearly new german motor again all down to pdf problems.
I myself have just purchased a new Discovery & was somewhat alarmed when the DPF filter warning came up with less than 2K on the clock. Easily resolved with a 20min blast down a long nearby dual carriageway.
However it does beg the question, should the people who sell you these cars not ask if you will travelling good distances or as perhaps in the case of the RR owner pottering around London?

I think some are a lot worse than others, I was fancying a Skoda but their forum was alive with filter failure complaints, had my Hyundai for 4 years now and do mostly small journeys with no issues at all, can't remember hearing any complaints from similar owners either.

I have been told the quick blasts to clear the warning light is a short term fix that becomes more difficult to achieve each time, it does not burn out 100% of the blockage and eventually big ££££££'s leaving your wallet.

Fella i know takes the DPF off and gives it a reverse direction blast with a pressure washer,works every time he says

indeed they should I would never have a new derv vechile now for travelling around here
when u move no where fast the re gens cant and don't happen

I have always used my estate Passat I can get more in that than I can my pick up

Pulling that load at 90 mph, 9 mpg is way better than I would have expected. My 1976 Rangie would only do about 20 mpg at motorway speeds with two people and luggage on board, round town it would almost be down to single figures.

Thats coz I used to drive steady... and it was aerodynamic ! I used to line the wheels up to let the air though them

The idiot government and car manufacturers have created their own problems that then cost use a fortune!
The cars are not designed properly and can't be used for city driving so Mr skint motorist drives it around anyway but now it's puking out even more crap than before. So the government start whinging about pollution and tighten the emissions regs even more and that just makes things worse.
Course, if your cars not registered it don't matter a fig anyway.

I did this on my BIL's 307SW every year, after being advised to do it by a Peugeot mechanic (off the books of course). Never had a DPF problem with it since doing that!
Another alternative is to gut the DPF & get it mapped out of the ecu!
