DPD scam ?

It so happens I waiting for a parcel from Germany via DPD eta 8 August it has my name but my wife's email & phone contact details on the label .

This morning at 07.00 hrs she gets a text saying , " we have a parcel for you you need to pay £2.99 as it is underpaid . click here to rearrange delivery " .
Tried to track the parcel number given in the text it keeps getting rejected as invalid but as this new depot has only very recently opened up I gave it the benefit of the doubt .

Sat & mulled it over Ok go and click to rearrange delivery ....

Whooah !
DING .DING. DING , ARUGHA , ARUGHA , ALARM , ALARM.

Nearly , nice try but I dried behind my ears this morning & the banana boat's not due in till 8 August .


No Names on the text such as to Mr &******** , why would they want my date of birth , and a whole load of other personal details including my phone number
Once the fibre optic installers d leave I'm driving over to the new unit . With loads of emails and texts I want my Parcel so does my pal in Germany .

its is a scam. not sure how yours would work but they are fishing for details and then use your payment detail's to take money from your account.

my wife had a similar one where they said do you want to track a parcel, then it directed to a website that just redirected her to the courier website but charged her £ 3.50 a time, then kept sending reminders at 3.5 a time . even O2 could not stop the scam...

simple really, send out millions of these text,s or E mails and someone somewhere will be waiting for a parcel, they send their details and it,s happy days for the scammer

It still hasn't won yet.

We have had the DPD one several times. Herpes has confused the issue by changing their name.

I've had a couple of transactions with UPS recently, both of which were followed by scam emails. This leads me to suggest, maybe wrongly, that UPS have a hole in their security system.

I honestly think that the folk who are clever enough to work out all this phising scam thing actually put the talent to good use , they could probably make a better living and still be on the right side of the law ,,,
although I wouldnt mind if they got caught and sent to jail and had to share a cell with a big butch queen for a year or two , then they would know what its like to be on the receiving end of a good shafting ,,,,,

That is a very interesting point which makes me wonder about the numbers. In any group of humans, you will always find the odd genius (pun intended). One in ten thousand will be in the 150 IQ range which is pretty rare and well over the "genius" level. Now think about the population in India, currently about 1.5 billion. There are possibly in the region of one hundred and fifty thousand geniuses born into (comparative) poverty (notwithstanding a skew in lets say European levels of nutrition and other factors which may affect brain development).

Are there enough intellectually demanding jobs available for that number of clever cloggs to find a seat? There are only so many universities or schools to go around and the vast majority (I submit) will go undetected anyway. Not picked up by the system at all and those that are discovered might never be offered the chance to shine - except for the cheap and easy availability of computers and software.

The attraction of "IT consultant" as a job is that there are no barriers to entry. Software is just a language with a precise logic. So it is not inconceivable that there is a natural tendency for this vast number of the gifted and talented to inevitably funnel into whatever software development roles are available. Many of those roles will be nefarious. Is it contentious to suggest Mumbai is the biggest slum city on the entire planet?

So you have a large number of very clever individuals stuck in extreme poverty with unimaginably vast riches literally on the other end of a telephone wire.

You can make the same proposition regards China.

Russia , China & the NORK's have battalions of computer competetnant players who do nothing but learn how to and actually infiltrtrate the rest of the world computer systems with the aim of destabilizing economies or stealing national security data and top drawer secret engineering information etc I think you also find that they are where a lot of the on line fraud originates .
