My trusty Clarke woodsplitter has quite a bit of power. Only struggle occasionally. Had these bits of wood for years. Won't touch them.
Tried a maul. Like hitting an anvil barely makes a mark. Then I had a cunning plan
Works beautifully.
Neighbor had a home made log splitter with the wedge made of 12 axe heads. 3 tall, welded togheter. They were sharp and would cut through knots, not split them. Wowsey.
As a kid, it was my duty every day after school to split wood to heat the house overnight. ( Could get to MINUS 18C overnight ) In winter, summer was over 30 C overnight.
WELL, the fire didnt last that long, BUT it was a pain to split peppermint gum trees with a hand axe.
Not to mention kindling !!!. Still have the scars to prove it.
Mum passed ten years ago, and we ( the kids ) sold the house. There were still lumps of peppermint that I couldnt ( dad couldnt, brothers couldnt ) split.
A little ingenuity goes a long way. Good job fizzy.
