dots of no-paint in basecoat

My first (dust) coat of basecoat.. it leaves dots here and there, up to about 2mm diameter.
Further coats go in there, but they become dimples by the end.

Any ideas? Grease on the surface? I did wipe down with panel wipe, but maybe not well enough.

This is basecoat going on top of 2k primer surfacer, which has been rubbed down with 800-wet, then then tack cloth and panel wipe.

Also, is there any chance that Brighton Autopaints have supplied the basecoat pre-thinned? It just looked pretty runny when I thinned it 1:1

You got fish-eye, google it there is a lot of ways attack the problem

use any silicon based products? my father used to get random blemishes if he got silicon any where near the surfaces to be painted

Not as far as I know.

2k primer, wet sand with 800, wipe dry, infra red dry, cloth with panel wipe on it, and tack cloth. I think I used the tack cloth before the panel wipe because the tack cloth can leave stuff if I'm aggressive with it.

Panel wipe is the same as degreaser is it?

yeah that sounds pretty safe, pretty much what I do but I don't infra red dry, just wipe off, tack rag then panel wipe

I'll do a better job with the panel wipe. Could also be my air. I don't have a coalescing filter to remove oil. Just a very cheap filter. I have a 10u filter coming this week.

give it a good clean and make sure you use clean cloths when using the panel wipe that hasn't been used for polishing or anything similar, although they do exist don't be tempted to use silicone drops, if you still have the problem give it a flat with some wet n dry and use some washing up liquid with it to try and get rid of it

It probably is your air, completely strip and clean your gun when you get the new filter.

guaranteed it wont be oil or in your air, its something that has come into contact with the surface

It probably is your air, completely strip and clean your gun when you get the new filter.

if it was in the air he would never be able to get rid of it, the air receiver, regulator water filter and air lines would all be contaminated and no use for spraying

in 30 years of painting ive never heard of it being in the air, for a start how did it get there ? secondly he has already painted using the same gear with no silicone reaction until now

I thought it got in through the piston seals on my oiled compressor though?

Well I would have thought you would know this then.....it comes from the compressor sump, especially if it's a cheap alloy one struggling to keep up with a hvlp and mask. You not ever picked up the wrong airline one that's had oil through it?

no its something that has touched the surface possibly your cloth or transferred through you touching something then the surface

its usually silicone that's why you buy silicone drops to counter act it you add the drops to the paint, then as the paint already has silicone in it, it has nothing to react with

3hp SIP compressor is feeding just the gun, and it's only a 7cfm HTE2 gun. Airline to gun is new as well.

Well i'm going to do both obviously. Clean surface properly, and clean gun/lines when my new filter goes on. I did re-use a rag, but just one that I had a few minutes before used with panel wipe. I put it down then used it again a few minutes later. I didn't put any fresh panel wipe on the rag because it was still sort of damp with it.
