Door closers, repair of.

Hi all, there's a Union Retro3 door closer at my wife's workplace (charity-run pre-school) which whilst closing the door it's attached to has no damping. When checked I found that both of the adjustment screws were wound in tight i.e. no adjustment left.
Have any of you ever taken a door closer to bits and if so is it difficult to repair them?

if its for a firedoor dont take it apart just get a new door closer in its place

Just make sure you know how the adjusters work, I once turned one of the adjusters then pulled the door open trapping me in a corner I couldn't reach the adjuster or push the door away, luckily I had my phone on me so called my mate to come and let me out, he didn't let me live that one down for a while.

Replace them, the issues normally is the seals are gone.

The one on the office door had a slight weep and over time lost its oil, looked at new and at £40ish makes messing about with an old one a waste of time .

And if you do 'repair' it and something drastic subsequently happens [like a kid getting fingers amputated, or worse] , guess who's going to be in the firing line, blame-wise?
