not so good if u have dry skin its not a conductor what happenes if the wood isnt seasoned and is moist . it will knack the dead lock mechanism

no good for damp timber though.....and i wonder at the longer term reliability of the whole machine with those kinds of forces....

Personally I prefer to rely on training and monitoring rather than "safety systems" that end up becoming a reliance and substitute for best practise

once the machine saftey device has been operated i think the saw is scrap there was a reference to it in the video

How much to replace that peice that catches the blade,from the video it looks like it took a right wack,will it work a 2nd time round?
Wheres was the top guard/cover all new table saws have one fitted plus they come with push sticks.
I think the biggest prob with table top saws is the kick back

8. Can I use a SawStop saw in a humid environment?
SawStop saws work fine in humid environments and they cut most wet wood without a problem. However, if the wood is very green or wet (for example, wet enough to spray a mist when cutting), or if the wood is both wet and pressure treated, then the wood may be sufficiently conductive to trigger the brake. Accordingly, the best practice is to dry wet or green wood before cutting by standing it inside and apart from other wood for about one day. You can also cut wet pressure treated wood and other conductive material by placing the saw in bypass mode.

How much is it? sound like its gonna be expensive an you have to replace the blade catched every time. Surely a cheaper option is to pay attention and keep fingers out of harms way.

How often are you going to cut into yourself with a table saw?
On the rare occasion that you do manage to, for $69 per save of a finger or other body part is nothing really.

I know Abu Hamza makes a hook hand look glamorous, but there must be downsides. Just think of the amount of modifications you could do to the hook with a welder, it would end up like a swiss army knife.

thing it I have been using table saws for 40 years and never come close to an accident...( back in the days when you were allowed to use them at school... along with all those other dangerous machines like lathes & mills.....)

Having seen the way some people treat machinery it is almost impossible to believe how low the accident rate really is, bet you half a dollar that some idiot would end up with his hand in the works seeing how much kickback there was when it tripped......

nice idea, but still no substitute for proper training and an ass kicking every now & then.

I think it is a great idea for that once in a lifetime moment when you do something silly using a saw.
My Dads mate worked in a saw mill and he was using a giant industrial saw.
The blade caught on a knot in a block of wood and threw it up into the air, he instinctively tried to catch the wood with diastrous results and he lost a few fingers......
