Donkey saws

I / we have a couple of donkey saws one is very old and the other one is a more modern unit.
Do people still buy these ?
If so i will dig them out and put them in the forsale. Ian.

I think everything in the metalwork world sells if the price is fair and am sure you will have some interest, good photo's and accurate description.

i rebuilt mine 30 years ago there brill and the blades are cheap they fech a good price depending on the condition

Well i never, that looks just like the old one of them.

Thanks, prob worth sorting out then, the old one near went in the skip 2 years ago.

i bought one not so long back and would recommend them over a chop saw any day providing your not in a rush!

i got me hands on one a couple of year ago, great bit of kit.

got one of them chopsaws anorl, thats not used now!

I bought one cheap a few years ago. The dropper thing doesn't work, so it's a pain to hold the blade off the cut, and the automatic cut-off has been broken, but it's still a useful bit of kit, I wouldn't get rid of it.

Damn, that's just reminded me. I need to find a place for it in my garage plan.


Also, has anyone got any information on how the lowering mechanism works? I'm sure I've asked before, but can't find it. Mine has an oil-filled(?) pot set an angle and there's supposed to be a plunger or something so that it cuts at consistent rate.

Here are a couple of pics of the damper on the rapidor i have.


The end of the damper has a couple of holes in it with a thin plate covering the bottom face of the holes.
The plate can be pushed away from the holes to allow more oil flow by a threaded rod that pushes on it
The outer face of the damper is curved to allow it to follow a sort of arc as it travels up and down
It's pretty similar to compression or rebound damping in motorbike forks.
