So whilst fitting a new headlight ready for MOT (broken adjuster mechanism) on the Hilux, I went ahead and fitted the raised air intake that's been sat in the shed waiting for me to get round to it for ages (because I don't want to voluntarily repeat removing the wheel arch trim).
Because the whole point of adding the raised intake was to prepare it for dusty environments, rather than using the supplied ram air intake, I put a Donaldson type bowl filter on.
Photo showing what I'm on about for the uninitiated.
Turns it generates a rather dramatic whirring sound when you accelerate, which is something I had never noticed on plant equipment fitted with them (presumably due to a combination of operating noise, increased distance from the cab, and the fact most plant runs at a steady throttle adjusted by lever/thumb wheel/screen.)
It's not significant (compared to other road noise), and has a rather dramatic flair to it, but it occurs to ask if this is normal behaviour?
