Morning Folks
I know we have some experienced sparkys here who always offer sound advice..so...
Am busy doing up daughters new house and have reached the bathroom, to tile properly I have disconnected the Triton 8.5 kw electric shower.
This has resulted in me noticing the poor standard of fitting, basically the shower is mounted on the wall of the airing cupboard with the cable running down inside the cupboard to the understairs mains box which luckily is a straight 4 metre run of cable.
My concerns is the fact the cable is simply 'hanging' there, flapping around and liable to be snagged by anything removed from the cupboard.
I intend to tidy it up with cable clips and make the run neater, it won't be seen so trunking is not really required for visual effect.
There is the correct double pole cord switch, it's all earthed correctly and it is 6mm cable, not enclosed or bunched with other cables so it is fine for the shower rating but my question revolves around RCD protection.
The consumer unit (wylex I think the make is) states the circuits are RCD protected and the cable is presently on its own breaker within the unit.. 40 amp if my memory is correct.
However my own consumer unit also states this but my shower has been installed through a seperate add on RCD unit, is this a belt and braces situation or a requirement under the leccy regs.
Off to hang another mile of wallpaper so thanks for hopefully any replies/advice.
