Does Thinners attract flies ?

I was using cheap cellulose gunwash thinners to clean down a job before paint, just getting the dust and grease off, and it seemed to attract flies, bluebottles buzzing around the can and dozens of small flies on the job.

Not sure about thinners but yacht varnish has a magnetic attraction for flies. Usually just as you have finished the final coat & are standing back admiring your handiwork, at this point hordes of kamikaze flies will magically appear & land in it!

Yes, thats them, tiny little barstewards.

It will be the strong smell just like some fools like to sniff it, it's not a bad smell

I used hand sanitiser in the bank after using the cash machine, little bottle provided, and it smelled exactly like whiskey

Have to keep the handsantiser out of reach of my 5yo for that reason.
Gonna have to keep my eyes on him as he grows up.

They go for the alcohol smell, as it's given off by fermenting / rotten fruit which is their main diet...

Don't know about thinners but I cut open an "empty" tin of WD40 to get the last dregs out, the next morning I went out and four beetles had climbed in and drowned.
