To be fair a 1.0mm tungsten will cool very fast, but without seeing the setup it sounds like they are being cooked a bit hard.
No I photographed the wrong pkg.. My fault .. I have the 1.0mm electrodes but I've hardly ever used them.. What would guys recommend for gas ltrs per min then.. Tbh I seem to read and hear all kinds of ratios to metal thickness to tungsten size etc etc ... I've even tried to use the tig guide settings on the forums beginners guide... Getting a little confused more than normal lol.. So too high gas flow is bad too yes.. But I need longer post flow yes...He also said he used 1.0mm
Ok mTe I will order one of those now... I always try to set my torch up as very best I can, the tip of the electrode is always set as short as I can get away with but obv with angles etc I then have to set it to get into the angle! As soon as that's done I revert back.. I normally grind a sharpe point like pin sharpe, I wipe the work and electrode with acetone.. Then I use the lowest setting of amps I can just enough to get a puddle and get it moving nicely.. Oh and after sharpening I run a very fine sandpaper along the length of the electrode till it's nice and clean and then use the acetone ..IMHO 1mm tungstens are of no use to me. A 1.6 happily controls 5 amps if I need it to. The key is how you prep and how you look after that prep. I too see people welding with tungstens looking a mess and its criminal. The arc is all over and welding is a nightmare.
By a soft wheel noods I mean a soft stone bench wheel. Mine is a green wheel 100 grit and it is very soft but it cuts through tungsten so well with no pressure required so it grinds cool.
Normally a 9 mTe ...5lpm covers most things. Post a picture of how you would normally have your torch setup. You may be extending the tungsten a little too far etc. What size cup are you using? WP9 or 17/26?
Is this what your talking about...IMHO 1mm tungstens are of no use to me. A 1.6 happily controls 5 amps if I need it to. The key is how you prep and how you look after that prep. I too see people welding with tungstens looking a mess and its criminal. The arc is all over and welding is a nightmare.

Never use my lenses on stuff like that.
