Dodgy Flux Core Wire - eBay.

I bought a 1kg reel of 1mm flux core wire from eBay, last week. It arrived the other day and was vacuum packed in a foil seal, like some other ones I got.

I don't know if this was like this when packed at the factory, but there's some rust spots on it. The vacuum seal seemed intact at the time.

I guess I'll just remove the layers with rust on it.

I would take a photo & email it to the seller, if you are lucky you might get a free roll. They ought to be made aware there is a problem with their stock.

Why did you buy Chinese wire out of interest? Small spools of half decent wire aren't expensive but they weld a lot better and quality control is usually better too

I didn't deliberately choose Chinese wire, I just wanted to some 1mm flux core stuff.

Ah...personally I would just stick with 0.8mm branded stuff...I don't think your welder has the beans to fully utilise 1mm? Or am I thinking of someone else with a 120A machine?

Lidl / Parkside flux-core wire comes in .6, .8, .9, and 1.0mm sizes, and is considered to be pretty good. The 0.9 works OK with drive rollers and tips designed for 0.8mm solid wire.
It is quite cheap when in stock in the shops, but expensive from eBay resellers:

I've got some 0.9mm Parkside flux core wire. It seems that the 0.6mm flux core wire is like hens teeth, at the moment.
