do you need special rods to weld cast iron?

NiFe rods, nasty expensive little brutes about £50 a kg (ouch). Short weld runs allow to cool between runs peen whilst hot. if its a crack you are repairing find the end of the crack and drill a small hole at the end of the crack to stop it elongating.
