diy user- joining a sill

first off...im no pro just a home user with a clarke mig

say i wanted to join a foot of replacement sill onto a car .ive seen folk cut like say an inch strip of steel and form that to the same shape and afix it under the butt join so that it gives a similar effect to a joddled edge , or a backing piece as such

what do you think...help out a newbie as i can use a bit more heat? or bodge job ? it is where i can drown the inside edge with wax

just stick it in the vice half way start bending outwards

spin round and do the same

the last part is bending the angle piece for the joined part of the sill thats easy

if i can do it with transit vans sills i think you can

Yep its a handy technique , and if you plug weld both sides of the sill to the strip as well it gives you a belt and braces joint ,,, if you buff it thin by mistake theres still plenty of heft left .
if you dont get a great fit on the backer and / or theres rust / dirt in between the two it can lead to problems , but all in all no bad thing .. but

you have to treat the inside after with something or it becomes a rust trap , I dont use wax I use acf50 ,,

others may not agree , but to each their own I guess.
