DIY skid steer log splitter attachment (and maybe boom lift)

This thread is a good example of the dangers in contributing to a professional trades forum. I daresay there are a fair few "gifted amateurs" such as myself who just want to improve their skills without necessarily needing or even wanting to become coded welders.

The phrase which springs to mind is "good enough fer who its for..."

I have also expressed some doubts over the design but ultimately, while the end user is hoping for some tips and a bit of help or guidance, they are just going to do the best they can. The serious professionals should realise that, especially for "home projects".

you can only offer advise , if its heeded or not is a different issue , but I bowed out of this thread and left it , elsewhere what was said was doubted , so now its been backed up ,,, once again Im out of this but Ill leave one thought , very relevant in the diving industry

everyone has different views on things and different ideas

if someone talked down to me or crapped all over something I was doing I wouldn't pay any attention to their input - why would I listen to anyone like that or trust their input?

I did bow out and stayed bowed out , until I got questioned in another thread about my opinion , so with the aid of pictures for the hard of understanding I showed examples of what I was expressing an opinion about ,,,, why trust their [ my ] opinion , thats been covered .
I really now feel I have nothing more to add to this at all .

Im not being sly ,,, I think your welding is poor ,,, your design was no better , and its still missing greatly . Ill say it in the open and stand by my opinions and back them with qualifications and experience .

Hahaha you really think that's a row of tacks and slag inclusion? You might have qualifications but clearly not been to specsavers recently!

What you say is a row of tacks and slag inclusions is one continuous weld and is a trick of the light because it's taken in the dark with just phone flash so the light reflects off the uneven and shiny/dull surfaces giving bright/dark patches. Plus it's an older phone with scratches on the actual camera lens when I cracked the back rock climbing and the forum compresses images which doesn't help.

Ultimately the design worked perfectly for its intended purpose as a splitter and has handle all I've thrown at it wood wise and other misuse including pulling the skid steer out of the mud it had sunk up to the axles in, yes the welds at the start weren't pretty but I was dealing with a broken mask/the amps being 20-30a off on a good day and smaller rods which each I fixed and thus improved the results.

For something that would be £1k+ normally having built it for under £300 it doesn't have to have show worthy aerospace grade welding and I'm happy with it so that is all.

Thanks for the appreciation, even with the engine at full Throttle the ram doesn't move that fast in and out ( plenty for fast log splitting though) and I think there is some sort of cushioning for the return stroke the guy selling it told me plus the length of hose gives a little bit of cushioning when you hit the ends.

Once I get some dry weather I'm going to set up a few lengths of steel cable to do the reinforcement v between the beam end and vertical u channel that connect to the quick attach as I doubt I'll be lifting anything more than 250kg so that'll do considering it only started bending when I put around a tonne of skid steer in the air
