i think it is wood polish/selaer

its polish for lino floors used in schools hospitals ect the firm also make the polishing machines and are still on the go

Sorry, wouldn't recommend that to anyone. And I realise you weren't being serious , but a cautionary tale if I may.

When we were nippers [I'm talking 1950s here ], my older brother [by 4 years] and I were at the play park and didn't realise someone had done just that.
Slide was like a rocket and much faster than it's normal 'sticky....slowish progress' and the metal at the bottom wasn't smooth.

He came down first, head first [Big Brother's prerogative, see..... ] and the impact with the uneven metal ruptured his insides, unknown to us of course. He soon started to vomit and even I realised something was wrong so insisted we head for home, which was quite a way away. As we walked he was repeatedly sick and luckily an older woman witnessed this and stopped to ask what had happened.

When we told her, she immediately took us into the nearby Doctor's surgery and insisted he be seen straight away. Result? Ambulance as a blue light job and rushed to him to hospital in Aberdeen, 40 miles away. Docs operated immediately, having been phoned in advance what was heading their way, and sewed up the damage.

We were told after the event it had been tough & go whether he'd survive.

As I say, a cautionary tale - to quote Hill Street Blues' Sgt Esterhaus..."Let's be careful out there.

We waxed up a spiral slide once and it threw one lad over the side. Luckily he was not harmed and we took turns to try to repeat the feat all afternoon.

lol kids willbe kids huh and no i wasnt joking we use to wax the slide up all the time and wear the slippest outfits we could find!

At school there was a long sloped pathway we used as a slide in the winter. Some of the kids, me included used to wear black oxford shoes with leather soles, perfect for sliding and we could make it all way down without stopping.

Teachers used to salt the path but a local kid would visit at night with buckets of water to restore the slide!

Took my mum a while to work out why I needed new soles every few months. Then she spoiled my fun by fitting stick-on rubber soles to the shoes.
