So I've got these from a boat trailer..
They slide in/out the rear of the trailer to hold the light board.
Trailer is not very old yet they have corroded pretty badly. The gaffa tape is covering the worst bit where it has gone completely through on all 4 side walls.
I'm guessing sliding them in/out has scraped the original galv off as the inside of the corresponding section of the trailer is absolutely fine.
Simple enough to remake but I'm wondering what material to make them from.
I have stainless or aluminium to hand, I could get some steel and paint it afterwards. Seems like overkill to get steel galvanised but if it was possible to find the correct size ready-galv then I could come up with a way of attaching the light board without welding it (or just paint the welded bit)
What's the thoughts on dissimilar corrosion if I used stainless?
Or aluminium?
The trailer only goes in the sea twice a year so potentially they could be fitted before taking it down to the harbour and removed when we get home but that's just something else to remember to do and I have also seen the damage that salt water can do in only a few hours...
If I'm going to take them out every time then I could just buy the original replacements and hope they last a bit longer if stored separately..
