Dissimilar cast iron joint?

A little mod to my horizontal bandsaw to allow it to clamp short block type objects. Bought another 'rear vice jaw' (see pics) and a donor quick release g clamp which I want to attach as in the borrowed photo.

I have a few choices of stainless rods and sifbronze no.8's, 99% sure both parts are cast, best choice? It won't be under huge stress as its function is just to keep the vice jaws parallel...

No8 or 309 will do the job, just make sure you let it cool slowly or it will crack

Youll be best off acquiring a couple of tig brazing rods, they are unrivalled on cast! More so than nickel rods even! With brazing remember you get the capillary action drawing it into the crack etc

I forgot about this project until someone bumped it up so had a go this morning, did a few practice bits with braze but couldn't get the hang, felt I couldn't get the heat into the cast metal. In the end I used stainless and the ****** cracked but it's really under very little stress so until it gives up it'll do for now. More braze practice needed!
