Disposable bottle won't work

I have just fitted another disposiable bottle to my welder and it won't "peirce" and release gas. I know it full as i tested the weight against my empty one. Any tips? I tried screwing it on and off several times but still no joy.

Is it that I just have dud bottle?

Is it one of the higher pressure bottles(110l/600g rather than 60/390g)? Older regulators cannot cope with the higher pressure these bottles hold, and will not dispense any gas.

The old bottle is a 600G and new one is a 390G. Will that be my problem then?

The small "pin " ( for want of a better word ) can break off on the disposeable regulators

Gas valve works/opens in clockwise rather than anti- clockwise?

I had a problem with a despoable bottle recently on my Clarke mig. Turned out the reg wasn't pushing the pin in the bottle down far enough. I ended up clipping a couple of mm of stainless mig wire off and wedging it in the bottle over the pin so the reg was a to push the pin down a little further.

the little O ring in the reg can roll over when they are screwing in causing the pin to not push the valve on the bottle. its made worse by the fact that you have to really screw the damn thing down really tight

if the pin on the bottle rattles its empty.

All sorted, got a new 600 one and it works a treat, so I will be taking back the 390 tomorrow too replace it with a 600!
