Discovery 3 ABS fault.

Spotted a Disco 3 for sale which ticks all the boxes but the seller says the NSF driveshaft has a slight knock and after driving it for about 40 mins the ABS light comes on but goes off after a restart.
Anyone have any experience of this? Is it likely to be due to the worn joint?

Read the codes to double check the abs fault is related to that corner, the reluctor ring is on the CV so if the driveshaft isn't right it is plausible the ecu isn't happy with the signal. Full driveshaft isn't too expensive so not unreasonable for seller to replace.

I do have a code reader I can take along. He says he’s driven it since November and that’s the only issue. The price is pretty ok and it’s a nice, clean example so if that is definitely all that’s wrong it will be worth a punt.

Probably the wheel speed sensor. Easy enough to replace as long as it’s not corroded in. Quite often they respond to a good clean. Highly recommend the Gap Diagnostics IID Tool as it will show you live values as you drive. It will also program anything the factory diags can do.

I’ve got a Foxcon one with the JLR software module installed which shows live data so though it’s not Hawkeye level it should be able to tell me what’s going on.

It’s an 06 plate.
She was also looking at the jeep Cherokee, of which later ones are in the stupid tax band. Mine is only £20 a year so I suppose mine sort of offsets anything she buys.

I was really shocked when we upgraded SWMBO from a D2 to a D3, I wrongly assumed that a newer vehicle would be cheaper.

Tax will probably be around £600.

My D3 is a commercial which is half the usual tax at £320

That’s exactly what we’re looking to do, D2 to D3.
Oddly, the badge on the back says it’s an LSE but they never did a D3 LSE.

When checking it out make sure the cam belt was done, and check it has the updated oil pump etc.

Was probably the HSE. I had a couple of V8 HSE D3s. Good vehicles.

That’s not the HSE as it’s missing the captain‘s chair arms. Looks like the SE. Decent looking thing though.

No front fogs and manual also mean it’s not the HSE.

probably just someone loving a badge, if you buy it you could add a few extra, HSE, Vogue, GTE, SRi, ST etc etc. It makes them faster you know.
but if you want a faster one you need overfinch

I see it’s been converted to coil springs but our D2 has too, and it’s been fine.
She is adamant she only wants a manual, nothing I can do or say to convince her otherwise.

In which case it’s the GS or Base model. With a manual box, coils, poverty spec I’d leave well alone. The biggest thing about the D3 was the air ride, makes the car. I know there are plenty who convert to coils but this is mainly cos they are Neanderthals who can’t get their heads round a small ECU and some height sensors. Maybe to cross Africa, but for road use in the U.K. it needs to be on air.

I’d buy a 2006 car on condition not specification,that one looks like it’s been well taken care of. My X5 has air suspension, my X3 coils, I wouldn’t say one was better than the other comfort wise.
With regards to driveshaft, an easy fix
