Hello,

Anybody watching this forum will have seen my threads about the disco.
Since it's raining today there's not much work being done this end.
Typical, wait for the weekend to get some work done and it F@@@ rains.

I can't seem to find pic's from start to finish of a drivers side floor n sill project.

So I though i'd use a bit of the time to ask if there is anybody on here who can send me some pic's of welding repairs to the drivers side floor pan from start to finish including sills.

I intend to keep the car for as long as possible so combining this vehicle with the ambition to learn how to weld suits me fine but i don't want the car off the road for too long as iv'e just taxed it and i enjoy driving it.

How long should it take to re-new sills and floor.

Although it is a 2 door and yours may be a 4. Looks like a front wings and doors off job - if you have a double garage, it would be quicker, as you can keep the doors off and not have to take them off and put them on each day - not a long job, but knowing myself about doing the sills on my Hilux outdoors, I would not quit the job for the day until I was battered, then I would have to put the doors back on which was... well, one of those things.

In a workshop, based on that thread, never having done a disco's sills before I would say three days for me to include tea, tabs and thinking up to the point where it had been seam sealed, primed and rough paint on.

Outdoors, give myself 5, but outdoors, the wind blows away your shielding gas and the rain washes away your spirit - this is to the point of it being fixed, painting would be extra, but it is a 4x4 so a carp paint job on certain areas is par for the course...

If you have not done any chop out weld in on a car before, give yourself double. Be prepared for other bits having gone wrong, bolts rusting and snapping or rounding off on you, parts you have to take off, parts that were fine if they had been left in situ but were not in fit condition to be removed an refitted etc.

Once you have done a decent job on something like a sill - welding, cleaning good and painting and you see you can actually do it, a little voice in your head says 'Right, now go buy a sieve of an MGB!'

I don't have a garage but do have a drive so soon as the weather improves i'll get underneath and take a close look.

Hi , i replaced my nearside inner/outer cill on my disco last winter .

No workshop or garage ,so it was done on mild non rainy days ,when ever one of theses cropped up on a weekend , Was done over a 2 month period i guess .

I drilled out the original spot-welds ,removed doors ,pasenger seat etc .one of the hardest bits was removing the body mounting bolts as they were well rusted and the bolt heads rounded off

The bulk head and inner arch needed some patching too ,so off with the outerwing ,easy enought job as they just bolt on .


id say leave a couple of weekend s to do do the job , the painting /undesealing/waxoiling etc all takes time although this can be done after the cars back on the road .
