Utterly horrendous design from Audi, I think the same design is shared by many models. I had the same on my A8, just resorted to drilling out, take it easy and it isn't too bad...you just have to be fairly accurate - it's a long bolt.

Edit: - mine is a Klann one not a Hazet.
VAS 6085 is the special service tool number.
Think I paid less than £200 for it - years ago (they now £350 ouch).
Good tool thou - has paid for itself - it has never failed yet.

If he wants to have a go at drilling this is what I did....
Remove nut
Sheer head on bolt using impact driver
Centre punch and drill bolt using progressively larger drills until it breaks through the side - depth wise you only need to go to approx a cm of the knuckle depth.
Now use the nut to pull the weakened bolt out....using spacers when you run out of thread.
