Dirtiest inside of a welder

A friend who I do some work for sometimes, asked if I could look at a Thermal Dynamics tig set that stopped working.

I am surprised it lasted so long. Only thing I can find at the moment is the noise filter on the earth that has burnt through but at the moment, no idea why that has received current.

Anyone seen a dirtier set?

A neighbour (honestly) sent a grain moisture meter back to the manufacturer for a pre harvest service. He got a letter back with the refurbished machine saying never before had they seen a meter in such ridiculous a state and that was no way to treat one of their machines. It had been left with last years grains still in it growing out through every hole. Just imagine that welder with green hairy shoots everywhere.
It was in the days before everyone had a camera in their pocket(remember them) but the company took some pictures and for years used them in the advert for their build quality and how good the service centre was and could breath new life into neglected machines.

When I worked in computer servicing I got called to look at a Commodore Pet computer that was not working and had "an odour." The computer had been left on at night to do long calculations to work out yaw and listing of ships and it took a very long time to do the calculations in those days. I opened the machine up and was greeted by a stench. There in the middle of the motherboard was a mouse. It must have crawled into the machine for the warmth and then urinated on the motherboard and electrocuted itself.

Not as bad as some of these but I was given a PC to look at back in the days of smoking in offices and it was filthy with a thick brown tar layer over the whole thing

I imagined a line front to back over the whole thing and cleaned the right hand half as a clean protest. It went back and I never heard a word about it

I used to do some service work for an English AV company , they had long term installation contracts in a pub chain all over the UK , rather than fly techs over to NI I did the service work , a lot of projectors and intelligent lights and big plasma screens , when pubs brought in a no smoking policy the work load went from a really nice job , into a why bother contract , so the effect on the inside of your lungs cant be pretty .

the inside I cleaned normally this was the outside casing that I just did half of so no way could you miss it

Old TV's were as bad, more room for mice in side as well there were places we did not accept a "jam jar" of tea/coffee whatever, same place they were burning the floor boards & door liners,
When mentioning the dead mice was met with a blank look & the lady pointed to the corner I had not seen the RAT sat there I presumed it was a pet & asked its name am surer it was not B****rd F8888888 thing , it takes all sorts
Had a rat in a TV think it was a Marconi quite old when I was an apprentice, it had found the metal center section of the round CRT it was spread over the inside of the case think the EHT was only 7k but transformer generated not fly-back. Had a dead mouse in a toaster once sort of mummified

Lincoln used to get the old Idealarcs (DC400s etc) back from the offshore yards for servicing......they were nearly always full of wet sand....im told the electrics were potted so it didnt matter..........they used to test them by running them whilst being sand blasted in a cabinet

I once saw one in Portsmouth being sprayed with water whilst in use. It was on the harbour wall being used to repair the cracks around HMS Southampton and besides it a big hose pipe has split and the water was pouring onto the set....i kept well clear.

It was a great contract , lots of mirror cleaning and fan cleaning , often had to drive a hundred miles to swap out a computer that wouldnt take the next weeks bar prices and adverts over the isdn line , only to find the cleaners had un plugged the machine to hoover and when they plugged it back in , no one turned it on again , pub lunch then another hundred miles home at london mma rates. those were the good old days , back when pubs were open.

Happens everywhere, I have twenty odd media players in a station foyer / booking halls, they can be seen to be on line but can not update content, I notice some of them have odd IP addresses, can't work out what is going on remotely so visit site to find out the un managed switch is on two networks, someone had patched it into two ports on different networks. The kit is located in a secure area that only station managers and cleaners have access to and no one made the patch it did it as if by magic.

I bought a faulty Oxford 300 MIG from another forum member about half a dozen years ago and when I blew/sucked all the dust out I found the instruction manual underneath it all!
