Dimmable LED lights

I have a number of multi bulb light fittings mainly using 40W candle bulbs.
With the advent of LED bulbs I have tried several different makes of dimmable LED replacements to replace the previous filament bulbs.
None so far are dimmable like the filament types they have replaced, in fact most get to a point where they start flickering to a point where. i feel compelled to turn them off.
I now find myself scouring the shops for old stock filament types because they work so much better.
Does anybody know of a make of fully dimmable LED bulbs which work as well as filament bulbs, as the latter are becoming extremely difficult to come by.

If you have just used LED's in your existing circuit then its probably not the bulbs that you need to change but your dimmer.

LED's need a different type of dimmer (Trailing edge)to filament bulbs otherwise they wont work correctly.

When I got some a few years back I put them in our light fitting (we had some Screwfix touch dimmers, not the trailing edge type) but they were horrible. It helped if you left one normal filament bulb in - i got a proper trailing edge dimmer for leds and they worked great even with all bulbs changed.

@daleyd - educational, thanks.

About 15 years ago (before LED were common) I was using dimmers with "new style" low energy bulbs, I noticed some of my bulbs were ok with a dimmer, others flickered badly. Maybe try swipping your led bulbs around to see if different makes work better in different dimmers?

the bulbs you have bought wont be dimmable. buy dimmable bulbs and get a trailing edge dimmer or they wont work properly

Definitely bought as & marked dimmable LEDs & to a limited extent they do dim, albeit they reach a point when they flicker so badly they would give you a headache if you left them on. Hadn’t however realised that the existing dimmer switch wasn’t compatible, as pointed out by Daley_d. I will buy a trailing edge type dimmer & try it on one of my dimmed circuits, if Ok will change over the rest.

if there plain white dimmers you can buy the module to fit in a standard switch for a tenner ish at electric base on the other end of screwfix building behind b and q stockton. thats who i use for most of my stuff

there is a minimum load that the dimmer will run on with led bulbs . its marked on the dimmer or the instructions
