Digital Photo Print

Just wondering who do people use for getting there digital photos printed.

I know Boots do it from about £0.20 each, not sure how much Tesco and the rest local do it for but I'm guessing about the same.

Who online is good to use as Google'ing it I can see them from about £0.05 each.

Snapfish are my current choice for non critical images (start at 9p per image). Critical images go through the colour managed Epson rig I have at home.

It depends on what you need from a print, as to your choice of printer.
e.g. consumer film had an emphasis on hypersaturation of the blue end of the light spectrum, to enhance holiday photos typically. Most high street mini labs are set up to reproduce this, and to not correct it.

I dont, peeling skin, then rough and cracking skin. Did like the smeel though

I only print sales or competition entries. I have an epsom R2880 which prints up to A3 and does wonderful black and white. Not colour b&w.

If I need anything bigger I use DSCL in manchester.

20p each fits with my perception that Boots is over-priced and a place to avoid.

As long as you have 100 prints, it costs 10p each and £5 total at Morrisons and, I think, Asda and Tesco, too. Postage becomes uncompetitive on mail order photo prints, I find.

Last time i used Jessops, got them done on the quick turn aound service, when i returned they wern't ready. I had a little moan, they ended up being FOC No cheaper than that!
Otherwise, Jessops online service was good when i used that last time.
Can't remember costs, but very compeitive from memory.

I've always used my own printers and initially only ever got a photo quality printer for all printing needs be that documents in B&W or full colour . Ink printers got expensive to run so I did the refilling run but gave that up when chipping of cartridges and absorbent anti filling pads became the norm ..though I did use Cartridge World to refill a slack handful of used cartridges. one day the printer died so I chose a cheaper alternative by way of a laser .

I've got an HP color Laser Jet CP1217 and most pictures get done on it in high quality plain laser jet card and trimmed as needed.

I refill the toner cartridges my self because I can do it at £ 75 for all colours ( in a kit ) instead of £ 75 new out the shop for each individual cartridge )

Any glossy ones I want I use my other older HP photosmart, the cost hits at about 60 p per A4

Bigger pictures I take to our Swansea Office World and that way I can see them and talk with the guy doing them .

Using the photo editing and printing I got with the PC I can add several pictures of all sorts of dimensions to be printed out on an A4 sheet. I then just guillotine them to size for just a few pennies per sheet. I can also get as many copies as I want there and them . You only select the pictures you want printing as well thus keeping costs right down .

PS.
Glossy photo paper does not work in the laser printer .. it comes out all gluey and gungey with little or no picture due to the much higher working temperature of the laser softening the glaze of the inkjet papers & card.

Bump what Epsom rig & set up do you have ? What sort of good & bad points do you find?
My current photoprinter is now well over five years old and will soon need replacing for cartridges are not so common ........so I'm thinking ahead.

I'm running the Epson R1900 at the min, using the X-Rite colour munki photo to calibrate between screen and print.

The greatest thing is that I am in complete control of the colour reproduced. The biggest downside, by far is the running costs, works out in the region of 70p per A4.

I'm tempted to look at moving over the the Lyson continuous ink system, as this should represent some cost savings. I may get them to run a test print to see what their inks like like against Epson's.

I have the Epson R2880 and full set of 11mm carts are £88. They dont last long I was looking at a CIS for mine but wondered how good the ink stock is. At least the epson inks are archive quality.

I have no idea about the CIS inks from use unfortunately.

Looking at the datasheets they should outperform the Epson Inks in terms of garmut. Having a look through Lyson's site they have won a fair few awards and offer an evaluation print, printed on your choice of machine, with a download to compare. Think I'll order a test and see what I think.

I can't remember if they came in during one of the symposium sessions when I was studying at Falmouth, would be way out of date now though!
