Nice little earner piling rigs - welding teeth on augers and hardfacing the flights!

I've been on a job where they tested a full size concrete pile to destruction. It was like an eartquake when it failed, quite a few guys on site had to change their underwear!!!!

Forget all the fancy tools. You dont DIG fence post holes. Get a pinch bar which is a heavy metal spike 5ft long. Lift above your head and drive into your chosen area. When it penetrates lever to one side to loosen earth.Six or seven goes will give you an area of loose dirt.
Now........take a shovel which you have cut down with grinder to 10" long and 8" wide............this will remove the earth you have loosened. Pinch bar again then clear with midget shovel. You will dig 18" deep holes at 12"sqare with this method in Jig time.

3 ton digger, best with an auger, but a toothed bucket will do, anything else is like hard work, really a small machine will cost you less than £100 for the day.

I rented a 2-man auger when I did my fence. Worked well. Here about 6" down is a layer of 4" rocks and hard clay. Auger would hit them, jam and the poles would slam into your ribs. Then the engine would backfire, lurch the other way and jam the other pole into your other side. Had lots of bruises after 40 holes.

Would never have done more than 3-4 holes manually. I was also going 3' deep.

Ohhh Ohhhh Dont get me started SD, IL drag me pictures out of one of them i modified to do deer fenceing, nigh on 16ft tall 1/4 ton drop weight, side shift and would fit telehandler and tractor, Whoooh

What you need is a fencers graft and a builders bar that'll cope with most jobs you dig by hand. The graft is a sturdy blade with a steel tubular handle about 6 feet long welded to it this enables you to dig a deep and small diameter hole without having to bend over,the builders bar is about 5 feet long chisel one end and pointed the other,great for breaking concrete or stones you find down the holes you dig.The blade in the photo is a bit long and only needs to be half that length ( about 8 - 9 " long ) we used to cut them down with an angle grinder ( 15 years in fencing ).
