diggers repair is slavery

we were getting ready to pour a raft friday when all of a sudden the track of the machine came pure loose, so naturally fired a few shots of grease into the ram that pushes the idler up, but on further inspection i notice the seal in the ram was gone and the greasewas escaping, and this meant the track had to come off. we were going to hit out the master pin in the chain out but the last one was pure horse work espieceelly with only a sledge, so the truck driver said lift it off with the machine and a chain. it took alot of packing but we got it out handy enough. but to put it on such horsing, i had a 3/8" plate in across the chain and the idler and bent i into a 30degree bend under pressure. its on now anyway. it was a 2003 zaxis 120, tracks are hard work with only levers anyone have bad experiences with them.

Why not just slacken the bung and push the idler back with the bucket then lift the track off with a chain! I had a broken pin in the track of the komatsu last year and that was how we got the track off to get the track to hard ground.

Also its not the first time one of the tracks has came off the hymac. Go to turn, straighten up and WOW there is the track on the ground!!

Oh boy if i had a pound for every time that had happened. Specially when there is a concrete lorry sitting

I threw a track (only came off the sprocket) off our Komatsu 210 at work, it was getting close to the end of day and it started to snow! We got it back on after opening the bung and pushing the idler back. The compactor (I work at a landfill) lent some muscle.

A neighbour has an 18 tonne case swing shovel, and around 4 years ago he had emptied his large carp lake and wanted to clean the silt..to cut a long story short he got stuck, and asked me to help him... he managed to get it down in the mud half way up the cab! We got it out and as he was tracking around the edge still in soft mud it threw a track. We had to try and get it on by hand the bucket was used to keep the thing from sinking again so to keep the track up out of the mud, we had to go and get some plywood sheets to act as rafts to work off. It was very scary working under it with it unstable in the mud, I had a large pole that I was wedging in the track and then with my neighbour in the cab driving the track tied to prise it back on. After a whole day we managed to do it! He then tried tracking out again got around 30 yards and it popped off again....So we had to start all over again...soul destroying. That had blown a seal on the ram, so wouldn't keep the pressure on the idler.

the spring on the idler has snapped on my yanmar, track comes off if you travell over anything bigger than a marble. i should sort it out really but have not had the time. but i have become a master of putting the track back on quickly!!

normally by the time I'm called they have abandoned the master pin, and they want it burnt out, and a new pin made up or a half link put in, diggers aren't too bad (unless they've been walked out of some hell hole), the real pita are dozer's no way of lifting machine, so you've nearly always got to track split..........grrrrrr
