Digger pins

The quick hitch on my digger is badly worn, as are a couple of the pins in it. As Im tight, Im not buying a new quick hitch. So planning to refurbish, build up, machine hitch as required, and sort it so the spring stays in place when used.

So what grade steel will the pins be made from. I have EN8, 16 and some 24 I think.

I’d expect en24t ,aswell as wear resistance,shock loading and jolting would be the working conditions.

EN16

EN24 can work harden and snap

EN32/EN40 case hardened is also banded about but for a mini dogger en16 will be fine

I remember some augers that were held onto their drive motors using EN24 pins.
Several augers had to be dug back out the ground because the pins snapped, despite never having been a problem before.
The manufacturer eventually admitted they'd changed the spec, and went back to the old spec.

However, I'd guess on a digger bucket, I'd guess wear is a bigger issue than work hardening given the relative size of pins to the load.
