difficulties of uphill and downhill welding with Co2 MAG

Generally what would be the best settings (amps, volts) for welding vertical up and Vertical Down with 1.0mm wire on mild steel around 4mm using Co2 shielding gas? What are the practical difficulties in both the types of welding and what kind of precautions are needed to be employed. Most welders weld vertically down but I don't think it gets enough penetration and coming vertically up is stronger, am I right? Thanks

Vertical up defo gives better penetration.I'd only ever do vertical down on non critical joints as its quicker but doesnt give as strong a weld....unfor that's all I can offer I only use 1.2mm wire at work and no welder at home as of yet. I'd knock 20% roughly off whatever amperage you would have welder set to on a horizontal piece.Again mostly 8-20mm I'd be welding so wouldn't try to offer advice on 4mm but expect someone well be along
