Different types of tungsten. Make a difference?

I use the gold coloured (Lanthanated) tungstens for all my tig welding.
Which is mostly Ali but I'm doing more little stainless jobs for work now.
But sometimes I really struggle to get things to go well and I'm wondering if it;s got anything to do with the tungstens I'm using??

Should I try another type or are these the best for what I'm doing?

The gold 1.5% are not ideal for aluminium but suit your stainless. Blue 2% lanthanated would do both. Weldcraft chart for reference.

You should have contacted Wellington Welding, 17 quid a pack of ten 1.6.

I use Red for stainless & White for aluminium, I found the gold not as good as the red on stainless, don't know why ?

Very possibly.
But Mine will be here tomorrow, there's no chance of getting a bill for import duty and I'd rather spend my money within the UK.

I have been useing a purple E3 electrode in place of the 2% thoriated for steel & SS, starts well, can handle less amps than the same sized thoriated, less time between grinds too! It also works well on Ali when balled.
