Different type of log splitter

If anyone wants to make a log splitter then this is a different type to the normal ram version -

Might be quite efficient for chopping fingers.

Fit it with a treadle, and it would serve as a blacksmith’s “Oliver” hammer.

I saw this the other day on another forum and someone commented on the wood being perfectly straight and knot free. I'd like to see it cope with a lump of knotty oak. Also it takes up a fair bit of space if you are working in a smaller environment like my space behind the shed.

Bet it wouldn't look at Elm or Eucalyptus. I've spent Years splitting on a 20ton horizontal splitter, that still struggles with some woods.

Looks like huge lump of steel behind the splitting maul though, it must have some momentum behind it...

I like it! simple to make too. It would certainly make life easier for those who do firewood, might not work on knotted hardwoods but it would certainly beat swinging an axe. Although thinking about it, it should, considering the mass of the cutting tool, probably the equivalent mass of 5-7 sledgehammers coming down at once and the guy isn't even building up a sweat. Brilliant idea!
