Difference in power using 0.6mm and 0.8mm?

My mig is a Clarke 160t and has 0.6mm wire in from the start because i mainly do thin panel work. Top power could maybe butt 3mm plate but that's it's limit. How much of a power increase should i see changing to 0.8mm wire, iirc the cross sectional area is approximately double on .8 so will it carry twice the current and therefore weld twice the thickness-ish?

I say ish because a 5mm weld i would be happy with...

according to the calculator you should be able to weld 4mm http://www.mig-welding.co.uk/calculator.htm?example=Clarke160

With some prep and .8 wire you should be fine on 5mm about its max tho, will need a proper V
