Difference between co2 and argon reg?

Hi all

newbie question; no practical reason for asking on my part, just nosiness.

What is the difference between an argon and a co2 regulator? Is it just the physical connector, or is there a difference in the gauges?

The cylinder fittings are different.

Argon mixes are at a much higher pressure so the regulator needs to be rated for it. A reg for CO2 may not be rated for 300bar as it only normally runs at 60 bar.

So you wouldn't recommend using a CO2 reg with an adaptor like this?

If the reg you were going to use it with was rated high enough to deal with the higher pressure I would (and do)

Mine's rated for 300 bar so I guess I'd be ok with this if I wanted to swap to an argon mix at some point. Mind you, a new SWP reg from ebay is only about 7 quid dearer.......

Ah... so if I have an argon reg then it would be ok to use it with CO2, using an adapter?
