Diesel compression tester

now then, don't suppose anyone within a reasonable distance from Manc has a compression tester kit I could borrow for an afternoon? Need to test the disco engine to see if it's done a ring

I have one here, just outside Wakefield. . Need to find it as not used it for a few years but it should be OK.
Do you get over this way at all?

if it overheated, it'll have scuffed up number 4

That's what I'm thinking. Although there was a little damage to the bore, I wouldn't be thought it would've been bad enough to drop compression.
It's been a pig to start, takes a good bit of cranking to fire up, and to get it to run clean I've had to advance the pump timing well beyond what it should be

its probaly struggeling to get fuel then, the old lanrover tdi's are generaly very good at starting even when they are running well chugging clattering scrap and guffing smoke out. if the rear filter is full of crap that'll make you think is dead tho

It's had a new sender, I've had the rear sedimenter off several times and it's clean, no air leaks anywhere now, had a good uses injection pump, new lift pump. Timing has been advanced far too much just to get it to run, makes me think it's down oncompression

ahh you've reached the point where i normaly take the engine out. on the logic that its ether very broken in an expensive way, or no idea wat to look at next so i'll blindly change all the littel bits at the same time

Even if it needs reboring it should be doable in the vehicle

i sopose in theory in viechel rebore is possible, not something i've ever had done, all the big motors ive had to do have been wet linerd so just swapped liners and smaller engines ive taken out to rebuild
