I have just taken one in part exchange for a log spliter I built, the engine is very good and no problem with the gearbox / 4 x 4 system. The rear arches have started to rot and as for the rear 3/4 of the outer sills, very porous to say the least. Trying to find some replacement sills but failing to find at the right price. Has anyone got any contacts or is it a case of rebuilding them from sheet?

Hi i would start from fresh use 2mm steel sheet if you can find any sills they will be expencive...

Sills aren't structural on them are they ? 2mm will be a beggar to form, make sure the inners are good and get some 18 or 20g to make the new outers. Which model is it ?

1991 Fourtrak TDX

Old but beautifull. Pulls like a steam train. Think I will use 1 mm and play with the hammer to form the outer sills. Looked at it again last night and it does not look that bad to do.

I think those can tow 3.5 tonnes legally,It's one of the few vehicles that can legally tow more than twice it's own kerb weight!

We've got a '98 TDX and it's a great car! Had an '89 one before, Mrs W wouldn't have anything else.
Have had to patch the sills on ours too, the newer one funnily enough, not the old one, the sills on that were perfect!

We had to plate the sills on my mates Diahatsu. Only a small bit of rust visible but we got the screwdriver out... 3/4 needed cutting out and about 3 or 4" wide

Started on the easier side today. As I thought! Doh! What is the ruling on welding patches on the sills? I went mad with cutter grinder and cut out all the rot and started from fresh around rear arches etc.

Any pics?.general rule is a patch must be seam welded all the way around.....depending on mot station can be best not to fill so they can see the weld ....if its not been failed for welding it can be easier to patch /fill/paint before they see it ........Gav
