Diagnostic help needed

Hey guys as previously stated i have a migatronic automig 180mx but it now seems to have a problem

long story short one min it is welding fine then the next it starts without even pressing the trigger!

as the euro torch is well due for a new one i removed it and tested the remote leads to see if there was a short but there is non and works ok when trigger is pulled (continuity)

im guessing there will be a problem with the innerds of the machine but as im not to clever on the internal gubbins i will need some help

I can post pictures or do some further testing if you need me to

just really like the way the set welds and want to try and salvage it if possible?

have a look for the relay and check to see if it has become stuck in the closed postiion some have a clear plastic cover and some dont some are mounted on the pcb while other are chassis mounted if yours doesnt have a clear cover you will need to check with a multi meter

Could be the torch has a short only when it heats up. Proably the only way to tell would be to run it until it fails then unplug the torch. If it still runs, its internal to the machine.

Thanks for the response I've turned the mig set on without the torch on and it still does the same. But I have not checked the relay Witch I will do tomorrow.

When it does happen it seems to be verry rappid on off on off then it will stay on, really anoying!
