Dewalt 18v won't fully charge.

As per title. About 6 months ago I bought a fantastic cordless drill with two 3 ah batteries, been very impressed.

BUT, As of a few days ago, each battery which has always fully charged, each displays 2 out of 3 bars when the charger tell me it's charged.

Is this temperature related ?

DCB187 3AH batteries. Couldn't find any clues on the net.

Hope its temperature related, I bought a similar drill plus identical batteries just under a year ago.

if it affects both batteries, I'd be looking at the charger being at fault.

upside: chargers tend to be cheaper than batteries.

Still under guarantee. Left one battery in the car last night, -2 this morning, popped it in the charger and the charger told me a temperature problem.

Couple of hours later the battery had warmed up, and it recharged but only 2\3.

Could well be the charger. I'll see what screwfix have to say. Good job i didn't butcher the plug. That wouldve given them an excuse to void the warranty.

Ive got Bosch blue and the batteries last years but eventually they slow down and stop.......Ive bought some of the fake ones off ebay and to my surprise they work very well.....I thought Id take a a chance seeing as they were £17 rather than £55........bought one and its worked well so bought two more 14.4V.....this yeasr my 24V one stopped so I bought another and thats been fine as well.

My elder son has had his 18V drill and worked hard,Batteries are still going and they are the original lead acid type,

Drill batteries don't like the cold & will not take a full charge in cold & will go flat quicker.I would suggest you try charging them in a warmer area like your house, screwfix will likely suggest this also.

They also don't like sitting unused, has it been a while since you used them? You don't say what kind of batteries they are - nicad, nimh or li-ion but each type is affected differently. Li-ion are the best for storage but the others have to be regularly used.

Lithium ion, and they've been getting a good amount of use especially the last month.
Will try charging in the kitchen and see if that makes any difference.

Bear in mind, it will take quite a long time for the batteries to come up to room temperature. If they have been in the van all day or out on a cold site, bringing them into a warm room won’t make any difference. The batteries will still be very cold when the relatively short charging period is over.

I bring mine in when I get home and let them heat up. Then I put them on to charge later in the evening or overnight. They seem to be charging fully and holding a good charge.

15 degrees in the house and still same old. Both batteries have been in the house all day. Both been used all day, I was hopeful, but no. Email to screwfi x pending.
