Hi guys, recently i purchased a Desoutter DR300-T3000-T5-90
That's a 90deg aircraft drill that takes type A collets.
Basically bought it off a guy on well known auction site, it's less than a year old (dated 2010 on the drill), bargain at £80, prehaps too good to be true?
As he described it's like new, however there is a massive issue with runout, un-usable the actual head seems to be perfectly aligned however it seems like the collets are not aligning themselves when screwed in (and of course i havn't cross threaded them) Normally the issue with these is the head bearings wearing un-evenly after years of use.
No matter what collet or coresponding drill bit is used the movement is the same, the problem is obviously in the drill head.
What i'm wondering is if anyone familiar with collet drills has ever had this issue?
To me the threading always seemed the weak point of the system.
I've obviously contacted the seller but i'm wondering if it's worthwhile swapping the head with a new one from desoutter (i would imagine that would cost more than what i paid for the drill) i'd rather have the drill working than send it back.
