Design spark mechanical alternatives

Long story. I use version 5 on my home computer and had version 2 on my old laptop. That's useful for fixing glitches in my drawings that sheetcam picks up. Or it would be. The computer on the plasma table isn't connected to the net.
I went to update the laptop to version 5, followed the link etc and it went to version 6, which won't save to dxf, unless...you subscribe. Haha. Previous versions have been free. So I'm looking for alternatives. I don't mind paying a bit, but I like the way design spark works, I've been using it for years and find it really easy to use.
Anyone got any bright ideas?

hobby or professional?

For hobby use Onshape will allow you to save 2d drawings and flat faces of 3d parts as .dxf but all your work is viewable to all users.

For professional I think some of the Seimens software is free but you would have to read the terms.

I want to keep my drawings on my own machine. And in further news, opened version five on my home computer to find an announcement that everything below version 6 is going to be switched off at the end of May, and it's set up so it won't work if you don't log in periodically, so it looks like I'll have to change that too. Pain in the 'arris.
