In my early dats of havin g to have an official licence to drive HGV civil style I was told take this truck and pick up the load for XXXXX .
I duly arrived and the guys loading me were looking a bit sneaky in side ways sort of glances .
But they still loaded the 40 heavy flywheels whilst I was in the loading bay , I braced them with 4 x 4 timbers collectged my paper work and rang my boss to tell him I was on the way to do the delivery .

JC the steering was heavy , I got out about half a mile from the collection point to see what was wrong and was horrified to see that the tyres were almost flat and the chassis sitting on the spring stops.
rang the boss from the next phonebox and he said just bringthem back here till it's dark and then you can take them to ZZZZZZ 's they have a night shift.

On ZZZZ's weighbridge I was clocked with a total load of 9.2 tonnes not bad for the max laden weigh allowed of 7 tonnes .

I walked away from that job a few days later when I was told to swap all wheels from my designated truck and put mine onto another truck because it was going to go for its test.
It would have left me driving on tyres as bald as I now am 30 yrs later on.

I had to get rid of an old cooker.

Scariest ride of my life, it took three of us to get it on straight and tied down. if it had moved on the way I would have been stuck.

The current wife tells me that years ago she left it a bit late buying a Christmas tree,Saw some for sale at a local market on her way home from work and bought an 8 footer, spent the next 6 miles home with it just laying on the roof with her and her 3 girl passenges hanging onto the branches through the car windows

My best effort , was collecting a 8x4 ' sheet of osb

Only had one ratchet strap , so put it over the middle roofbar of three ..
was ok until 40 mph .... you may guess wot happened next yep the wind gets under the front of the sheet rips it in half and goes flying over onto the road behind

I once got an 8x4 pine-effect wallboard INSIDE a Renault 25... with the wife and kids Bought it at B&Q without thinking how the hell I was going to get it home.

Had to drive slumped down in the seat and couldn't adjust the mirrors properly but home wasn't far... officer...

A few years back I took a load of lead bricks up to a clients premises to do some radiation tests; we assembled the rig at our premises then dismantled the pile of bricks and heaved them into my Connect van.
Whilst the client's guys were doing their thing I counted up the number of bricks then when I got back I weighed one brick on the parcel scales and found that my 900Kg-rated van had been carrying over 1.3 Tonnes. Whoops
Probably get bummed by VOSA without lube for that, I imagine.

now that really made me laugh!!

The lads used to take stuff to le manns every year and have a competition who had the most overweight truck, loaded with floor tiles and 3mm foam boards for the pit garages plus quads and rubbish dumped on the top for good measure, very glad to have left there know

I got 5 BMX bikes and 5 people in an escort estate once...
A friend of mine loaded some 2x4 bits of wood in the back of a pick up (same as that truck with with the huge bit of metal overhanging the front). He got 1/2 mile down the road when the wind snapped them in half. Wrote off 2 cars... Job well done
