Hi everyone that's almost a 5 years review of my cheap auto-darkening helmet.
Bought I can't remember if in 2017 or 2018 , anyway I think it's enough time to say something about ,I have replaced the clear shield recently and I'm always saying that I make the review of it but never had time till today.
Let's start.
So before to buy it I used a passive filter helmet like this one
Always cheap but good quality fixed shade ,I believe din 11 aulekro black filter.
I was became good with it but , started to have difficulty to start the electrodes because obviously I couldn't see anything once put the helmet down.
And had serious problems with the headgear it became a pain , can't remember how many times moving the head to tilt it down I've actually thrown it
I've always loved this brand but I was enough broken to justify the cost of this Beta tools 7042LCD helmet.
So I took a look to AliExpress ,but I couldn't find anything which was enough cool and simple , never liked those helmets with flags , semi erotic manga drawing or skulls on them.
After days looking for an helmet I've finally found the helmet I'm actually reviewing here.
I couldn't believe that it was practically identical aesthetic wise ,so didn't think too much and bought for 22 euros if I remember correctly.
It has external continuous shade adjustment from 9 to 13 and grind mode (turning the knob all the way down)
Classic green tint ADF which actually allows to see some colours (not a true colour filter).
It has been a true revolution for me ,I love it.
It allowed me to improve soo much in stick welding.
Initially I didn't feel so good with the filter ,it looked too much luminous for me (I was too much close to the arc because I was addicted to the other one) and shade 11 was like 9 on passive filter.
It has internal sensitivity and delay adjustment knobs.
After playing with it I've put delay at the maximum setting just for personal preference.
I do sometimes adjust sensitivity depending on environment conditions.
I don't know if you can see in the pictures but the helmet it's Colts branded.
Anyway let's go on
Headgear
It has not a locking mechanism on the head other than the upper strap which has locking detents.
But never had problems with it.
It has locking detents on the movement (5 settings for all the way down and 5 five for the all the way up)
Little safety instructions sticker inside.
Despite years of falls , bumping around, welding and grinding and the fact I use it as a face shield too ....
It looks almost in brand new conditions.
I regularly clean it and it hangs in my bedroom , never ever laid it down on the front.
And almost always used safety glasses under it.
I believe that there's enough space for an half mask respirator .
I hope to have done a nice review of it , maybe too long and detailed but in 4 or 5 years,it has many things to say and "we" shared many welding adventures together.
Never expected this quality for the price and if I'll have to replace it I'll buy another identical one ,or step up to an Esab A40
