Degreasing/preparing metalwork...?

Looking to apply epoxy mastic primer to bare steel.

Will isopropanol alcohol suffice to prepare the surface for primer or do I require other chemicals for this job?

that will do or pannel wipe, thinners, brake cleanner to name a few more

Quite possibly. Depends how quickly it flashes off. The norm is panel wipe who's properties when applied serve to lift the contamination allowing you to wipe it away before it flashes off. If you do a test piece and you don't get fish eyes immediately, it's worked.

i have fast pannel wipe here and it flashes off to fast for my liking

Brake cleaner and cotton rags made from old bed sheets or t-shirts.
