Don't joke about it - a guy I know bumped a car gently enough that there was no damage to either cars, other driver wasn't bothered and the two kids in the back were hyper saying it was like a roller coaster.
A year later he gets sued for 25k - apparently the other driver was so distressed and badly injured she couldn't drive for months, her relatives were also trying to cash in as they apparently had to drive the kids to school so they wanted paid and the kids themselves had to get counseling... The list of 'costs' was incredibly detailed and even included pennies for packs of paracetamol
My wife ran into the back of a car with 2 kids in the back a few years ago. It was my wife's fault, there was no dispute about the blame, but she barely hit the other car. My wife had a VW beetle (New shape one not the old type) and the total damage to our car was a small crack in the number plate and a small scuff on the paintwork just above it. We didn't even bother to get these repaired.
The woman in the car said "Oh it's OK, don't worry, its an old car anyway, to be honest I hardly felt anything" My wife swapped details with her anyway, and said we would pay her directly for anything she wanted repairing, to which she agreed.
3 weeks later an insurance claim for new rear bumper, 2 rear doors which were apparently beyond repair, whiplash for her and the kids, time off work etc etc.
I sent the pictures of the scuff on our car to the insurance and sent them a statement about my wifes side of the story, never heard what happened after but I can fairly confidently assume that she got home in the evening and her husband/a friend saw there was some money to be made.
