Decking

Decking boards groove up or down. Busy lifting my deck i put down 20 years ago. On that occasion i put the grooves up, ive since heard they go down. Anyone shed any light on this? My thought at the time was the grooves were for grip and drainage. Bit confused at the moment.

grooves are up as there for grip when you walk on them but they dont half catch water and snow and ice when they are in winter

if you go down that board does become slippery when wet or in winter time as they do ice up rather well

Unless the manufacturer specifically states they are single sided (as is often the case with the gripstrip style boards), then you can assume they can go either way depending on preference.
Some decking boards will have a different groove pattern on each side.

My hardwood decking was smooth both sides.

we have a large deck area....
went for Sikkens deck finish....Can be reaplied without sanding when nec....
It's a bit like oil, the wood just soaks it up....

Not cheap but is ex quality as is all their ptoducts....
