Decent Tarpauline

Does anyone know where you can buy decent tarpauline sheets the ones from machinmart etc simply fall apart after awhile and are easily penetrated by any kind of projection.
My restoration projects tend to live outside not good with UK weather. I did put them in my workshop last winter after the tarp's gave up but then I had no space to work.
This winter I've cut an old inflatable mattress into a single sheet its made of cotton reinforced plastic and you can tie it down tight and it doesn't mind projections only prob' its not really big enough!

Have you tried army surplus suppliers?

should imagine any they had where best quality

Look for a repairer for side curtains for a truck via google etc...often you can buy used side curtains at a real good price and if you are cash in hand rather than cap in hand you'll manage to get two 40 footers joined or one halved and joined. Or go to a big haulage company and ask where they get theirs repaired or ask it they have any old ones . You can often locate double skinned insulated ones and a few minutes with Mr Stanley will see you with some 7 foot wide 20 to 40 foot lengths as well as getting the fittings for free etc..
They are rather heavy though , I'd go for some UPVC blue waterproof membrane for a short term job of a year or so.

Great idea! there is a haulage company/yard not far away I could try.
Get the point about heavy but with wind and rain these days lashing down is always a problem. I've tried army surplus and even MOD direct sale off sites but no joy plenty of Bedford Army Trucks though.

I can tell you 2 places in Inverness that sell them, they cost a fortune though, about 10x the price of the normal ones

Would deffo try and get something 2nd hand, look in the local ads paper/gumtre, stick a wanted ad up

I have 2 large very thick tarps covering up firewood, they are from 7.5ton size tipper wagons. The covers were pulled out of skips!
