Decent CV Boot Brand

2 years ago I stripped, cleaned & regreased both driveshafts on my van & fitted new shaftec cv boots. I was servicing it earlier & noticed that one of the outer boots is cracking already! I've only done 8,000 miles in that time so I'm not best pleased!

Is there another brand of good quality cv boot that will last a good few years longer? I'm considering fitting genuine Citroen ones but they're not cheap!

For reference the outer boot is BK26 & the inner is BK1045.

Fit GKN ones, avoid anything from shaftec or J&R

I used to fit hundreds.....
in the end I bought the stretchy tool and fitted Silicone rubber CV boots.....
never had a failure and yes the little end will stretch over the big one, just....the tool is or/was nearly £200......

Meyle of febi just to through out another couple, but not from eBay, too many fakes.
The cheapest alternatives from Euro car parts are usually Chinese crap which don’t even last a year, I’ve been there and got that T shirt

I like the stretch boots too but they dont last forever.
You can get Polyurethean CV boots now. I have them on my mitsi they will last a long time

Silicone cv boots, steering rack gaiters and track rod/ball joint boots are available, also plenty of sprays that are supposed to extend the life of the rubber and keep it supple.

These days I only spanner on my own stuff or as favors ,,, if folk are getting my time for free they can buy genuine parts ,,, so thats my route oem ,,, not ever universal stuff that never quite fits anything .

how often do you spray cv boots with silicon oil etc ,,,, my cuff seals on my dry suit last years now , as I spray them after washing my suit , the sprays do work and make a huge difference ,,,,, but for them to do that , you have to use them ,,,, cv boots i look at once a year for mot ,,, or when they leak and i notice.

I dont, just saying that if you are worried about extending the life of a boot this stuff does work. I am a fan of the silicone cv boots and gaitors.

I've read quite a few reports of the silicone boots not staying on or splitting after a short time.

I tried one of those 'universal' stretchy boots once, even bought the cone shaped tool to fit it. Never again, tried fitting it with the shaft on the car that proved impossible so ended up having to drain the gearbox, remove the shaft & do it in the vice. Then once fitted the fit on the cv joint was so poor that it was likely to leak or pull off.
Ended up ditching it & sourcing the correct rubber boot.

I bought brand new reproduction handbrake mechanism rubber covers for the Zodiac axle in my last hot rod. 2 years later it's ready for MOT and i noticed they were literally crumbling apart, without ever having been on the road. God knows what they are made of nowadays.

Both outer cv boots have perished, one has quite a bad crack in it!

Strangely enough the inner boots look ok but they do have an easier life.

I've now got the Citroen pt no & I'm going to see what brands my local motor factor can source, it will definitely not be shaftec! Blueprint are looking likely as they offer a 3 year warranty on the boots.
