Decent 1/2" Metric & Imperial

I'm in need of some sockets. Impact in Metric and CRV or Impact in imperial but they must be good quality. The likes of Kingdick or Britool of which i have some old ones from my grandad but i need some complete sets. In metric i need 20mm up to 50mm and in imperial a full set of all the usual sizes.

Can anyone recommend some. Most of my metric stuff is Halfords Advanced which has been pretty decent but they dont really do any sets of big sockets.

Have you looked at "Teng Tools"
It's what we use in work and takes a beating.
I'm sure it has a lifetime guarantee aswell.

Second the Cromwell stuff. Good value and takes a good bit of welly.

There's a 3/4 drive socket set that's marketed by draper, sealey and several other manufacturers on ebay. It's the same set, probably made in the far east. I shopped around & the best deal I got when adding in postage was the draper version from my local hardware shop. I've used it a few times & it's quite good for the price as long as you don't abuse it. This is it.

They had a sale on and I got it for £90 after some negotiation plus I got a 3/4-1/2 reducer thrown in as well!


Don't be surprised if the ratchet breaks or the t-bar bends when you put an 8ft scaffold pole on it, they're not designed for that abuse! That's what you have a long breaker bar for! It you do bust any sockets you can replace them with better quality version though I think you would be giving them serious abuse to do that.

The thing my set gets used mostly for is as mandrels for for fitting bearings & seals.

If I was buying now that's what I'd go for - top quality and a lifetime guarantee. No ratchet but to be honest I've rarely used mine. Crack the nut with the breaker bar & use the windy gun to spin it off.

I have the Halfords 3/4 inch drive set and can recommend it also. I paid £100 on a half price offer which seems to be on permanently! Was easily the best value set in my opinion. It may not be as good quality as snap on etc but it'll definitely be a fraction of the price. It removed a 50mm nut off the drum off my trailer easily enough.
