Dead leg - plumbing

I need to remove a hot feed to a sink we are removing. Currently the sink is fed by a tee from the hot feed to another sink. Removing the tee and replacing with a straight coupling is going to be quite hard given its currebt position (almost as it cones through a wall. If the tee is capped off directly after the tee is this a problem? Whats the definition of a dead leg (length) that could cause problems?

If it's a compression tee you can just cap the branch with a compression insert plug if you can find one or a 1/2"BSP cap and fibre washer, if it's soldered, cap it as close to the tee as you possibly can. 2 main problems with dead legs are water not flowing so it getting stale and contaminated, and water hammer when air is trapped.

If you Google around, it suggests that recommended max. dead leg length is 1 1/2 times the pipe dia.

Capping just after the tee will be satisfactory in most cases. Ive removed old dead legs that are full of stinking black water

I've got some that are new but unused until I fit the new ensuite, they are about 3 meters long, I drain them every now and then and the water is clean looking.
1 x mains drinking water.
2 x hot and cold pumped shower.
2 x hot and cold water.
What would you say @Kayos ?
OK or not?

we got picked up on an inspection in one of the places I work , t was only about six inches , also we didnt have a double anti return valve on an outside tap ,,,

The hot ones are the issue

You have 2 choices, either valve them close to the tee or flush them regularly. Monthly should be sufficient

Standard practice in the hospital I used to work at was to ensure all taps were opened on a regular basis, just to cover off the risk of no one using the sink in the far corner. It's treated quite seriously.

When I did legionella inspections (granted in hot countries) we would make note of any leg cut back to a T and recommend the removal of the T.
If the dead leg was longer than the T we would up the wording to MUST be removed.

Rather than blanking it off, could you extend it round to another tee piece plumbed into the same pipe a bit further along?

This is the pipe. The join is close to where it comes through from next door. I will have to cut the floor to access it really. The damaged upward pipe is the bit I need to remove.

Id wet vac the water out and unsolder the bit you want to remove, new piece fluxed up and solder it in
