DC motor

Hi I have a 12-24v 850watt dc motor that I am considering using for a project ,I also have a 100 amp SIP mig welder that I don't use,Q could I power the motor from this,it will be used for short bursts ,also without a tacho how fast does/would the motor spin?i think it is from a buggy or disabled scooter,thanks for reading,

I would say that the welder will run the motor ok, but as far as the revs I think dc motors are free reving in otherwords are not controlled by frequency as an ac . the speed is controlled by the voltage applied.

Speed will still be ultimately limited by the back EMF created.

Hello Rosinante,

there are different types of D.C. motors and depending on type affects the speed. Series motors need to be loaded or they just accelerate, compound motors are usually controlled by field voltage.
You have nothing to lose by giving it a try, set to the lowest voltage first.
